School districts should teach teens about eating disorders

As a teen who has dealt with body-image issues, I believe it is time for some change. Looking through some policies at Fresno and Clovis unified school districts and from Fresno County, I have found that there aren’t many policies that deal with this situation.

Eight million Americans deal with an eating disorder. Ten percent to 15 percent are males and 95 percent are ages 12 to 25. The Valley needs a policy that helps them get the help they need. Just like we try to protect bullied teens, we should try to protect the anorexic, the bulimic, the binge eaters and the obese.

Fresno needs to take initiative to start something that teens and preteens can take with them along the way. This will help with an overall great look toward the future and a better mental health for all.
