Fresno’s ‘Ceasefire’ program is funded but isn’t working – why?

In response to Proposition 63 and gun violence issues, I want to point out that the problem of gun violence begins in childhood, partly due to poverty and early gang involvement.

Increased security will not hit the root of the issue. It is just a reactive attempt at a solution.

In some large cities, Ceasefire is a proactive strategy that is a successful and comprehensive solution. It attempts to address the systemic issues of poverty and gang affiliation as a way to prevent gun violence.

In Fresno, this program receives funding but is not doing its job. As citizens who want to see positive change in our city, we must pay attention to programs that receive funding, and hold them accountable for their outcomes.

Ceasefire has the potential to be the solution we need, but it is currently just another reactive program. Please join me in contacting our police department and requesting public reports on how the ceasefire funding is used. The hotline number is (559) 621-2353.
