Spend money on education, not athletics

I was sorry to see that Bee columnist Marek Warszawski was taken in by “Uncle Joe and Uncle Jim” (column, Dec. 3) which reflects the Uncle Tom attitude of Fresno State. By the wording of the article, one is led to believe that these two men wrote their own checks.

First of all, it is an embarrassment that they both hired football coach Tim DeRuyter only further enhanced by the idea that they have to buy their way out. Now they are selling this swill as a transition to a new better deal, which may be the case.

The money they spend on athletics could and should have gone to providing education for the students who take five years to graduate due to not being able to get classes. Let’s see how gullible the rest of the community is, and if they drink the swill that is being served up by the sports columnist.
