Trump team makes America mediocre

If you wanted to assemble a first-rate team – for basketball, say, or for medical research – you’d most likely seek out people with extensive experience, with a proven and impressive track record in the field in question.

So far President-elect Donald Trump has taken a contrary approach. His pick for secretary of education has no background in public school education. His pick for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations likewise has virtually no background in the complexities of foreign affairs.

Perhaps most troubling so far has been his pick for chief strategist – a man with a track record of anti-Semitism and right-wing excesses. Given our country’s cultural and racial diversity, this last selection seems like an especially poor strategy.

Make America great again? With a lineup with folks like this, Trump would be hard pressed make the nation mediocre.
