We survived 9/11; we’ll survive 4 years

So it’s to be President-elect Donald Trump. I am deeply embarrassed for my country that such a despicable person could be elected president of the United States.

As Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs said in a recent interview, if our children had said or acted in the way Trump did in the campaign, they would be grounded for months.

But millions of people ignored, overlooked or embraced his racism, xenophobia and misogyny and elected him president.

But I am proud that more Americans voted for Hillary Clinton, because she defeated Trump in the popular vote. It’s only because of a quirk in the Electoral College that Trump was elected president.

And I am proud of my state, as Clinton easily defeated Trump in California by a margin of 61 percent to 32 percent. The only hopeful sign is that this country has gotten through a Civil War, two world wars, the Great Depression, unpopular foreign wars, the tragedy of 9/11, and we will get through the next four years.
