Take control of Fresno’s concentrated poverty

A problem that needs to be addressed is the concentrated poverty level in Fresno. The poverty levels in Fresno are among the highest in the nation.

Fresno is ranked among the top three. Having one of the highest concentrated poverty levels in the nation says something needs to be changed. We can’t allow the government to create this in our towns. According to the article, “Katrina’s Window: Confronting Concentrated Poverty Across America” by Alan Berube and Bruce Katz, the policies and laws created by the government push the poverty to certain parts of a city, which creates concentrated poverty.

We need to take control of our city and not be controlled by the government. Once we do this, we can control the poverty which can improve the area for better business. When the businesses are running, that’ll improve the city because that means more jobs and stability for the people in poverty.

As a city, we need to fight to control this problem and be more involved in helping. For more information on concentrated poverty, visit https://www.brookings.edu/research/katrinas-window-confronting-concentrated-poverty-across-america/. Let’s get Fresno out of the top three and improve our city.
