Thanks to Bee for raising awareness on brain trauma from domestic violence

The Fresno Bee has been publishing articles on domestic violence that are interesting and important.

A recent article in The Bee by Lindsey Tanner (Aug. 23) makes it clear that domestic violence affects women greatly and that the importance of abuse is nationally undermined. Her article focuses on the brain trauma experienced by abused spouses.

Football players receive the same type of trauma, but with way more attention than those who have experienced domestic violence. Two testimonials from women facing memory loss and headaches long after they were abused are used.

Although not discussed in the Tanner article, 22-35 percent of women who visit a hospital emergency room do so because of domestic violence. This is a high number of women who are experiencing physical abuse to an extent in which they need immediate help.

Many victims’ voices aren’t being heard, and domestic abuse is being kept private when abuse is an issue that affects the whole community.

The Bee is doing a great job on making the public aware about the obvious problem that domestic violence is, not just in Fresno, but in our nation as a whole.
