How do gunshot detectors help Fresno schoolkids?

So, Fresno Unified School District wants taxpayers to approve Measure X, a bond of $225 million. I understand the need for the funds for various improvements. However, what I cannot get out of my mind is half a million dollars casually handed over to the Fresno Police Department for gunshot detectors. Does this have any direct connection to educating our children? Not that I can see.

Frankly, I would have felt less annoyed if the district had given the money to the air district to help address all the asthma among local students that keeps them out of class too frequently. But gunshot detectors?

The district has a long way to go to earn back my trust before I would ever vote for a bond again, and I suspect that many others feel the same.
