Divisive language hurts Clovis schools

I am a parent in Clovis Unified School District and I recently became interested in the school board elections. This local election is embarrassing, especially on social media. Proponents of the incumbents are disparaging parents in their own district. The Citizens United for Excellence in Education is openly mocking the group Stop the Madness.

I don’t know any of these candidates personally. What I do know is how incredibly divisive this behavior is. Can you even imagine how these parents feel? As a witness to this behavior, I am both stunned and disappointed.

Additionally, there is another Facebook page entitled, #iamclovisunified, managed by a Clovis Unified administrator. The title is deceptive in nature. Apparently this administrator doesn’t believe some of the parents he serves are “Clovis Unified.” Maybe I’m wrong.

Parents are silenced and deleted from the page on a daily basis. It is a conflict for that Facebook page title to infer it is district sanctioned, and to be managed by a district administrator. If he serves us all, then he would recuse himself indefinitely. It is the right thing to do. People must ask themselves, is CUSD for all parents or only the ones they agree with? Decide for yourself.
