Conservative Pulitzer winner hits Trump’s disrespect for democracy
Charles Krauthammer’s recent Bee column (Oct. 17) “Trump’s America would be a banana republic” was on point. Mr. Krauthammer compared Donald Trump to “two-bit caudillos” who lock-up their opponents. Trump’s proclamation that he would jail his opponent is a classic example of this dictatorial inclination.
Mr. Krauthammer, a very conservative syndicated columnist with 400 publications, is a Pulitzer Prize winner and Fox News contributor.
I can provide 101 reasons why Trump is unfit to serve as president. He is misogynist, racist and a serial liar who seems to think that absurd, obnoxious behavior and empty promises qualifies him for the presidency.
But Mr. Krauthammer’s criticism is probably the most compelling. He recognizes that Trump lacks an understanding and respect for the Constitution and American democratic process. Trump is the most unqualified presidential candidate in the past 160 years and he also happens to be a disgusting human being.
Mr. Krauthammer’s strong disapproval of Trump is rock-solid testimony that Trump is unfit. I do, however, have a slight disagreement with his comparison of Trump to Vladimir Putin in Russia and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Both Putin and Chavez, while strong-armed dictators, are much better informed and competent than Trump. I liken Trump more to North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, a dangerous buffoon.
