Measure U permits higher county costs

Vote “no” on Measure U to stop Fresno County from overpaying for supplies, equipment and services.

Measure U proposes to grant a bid preference to Fresno County businesses, meaning that; when a business not located within our county submits the low cost bid for products and services the bid can be rejected and the purchase made at a higher cost from a local vendor.

The county’s charter was amended not long ago. That amendment includes a local vendor preference that does not force the purchase of items at a higher cost. The charter currently allows for a local vendor (that previously offered a bid) to meet or beat the lowest bid submitted by a non-county business. We currently have a local vendor preference and it does not give away taxpayer dollars.

Again, vote no on Measure U to prevent needless spending.
