Fresno’s train corridor of filth and trash

I read with great interest of the project to bring a public market to downtown Fresno. I’m all for improving our local economy and creating a better image of Fresno.

With that said, I recently took a trip to Oregon and back on Amtrak. The view outside my train car window while riding through Fresno was shamefully disgusting! From one end of Fresno to the other, it is a corridor of filth and trash. No other town in route had such an excess of graffiti, dumped garbage, trash, discarded mattresses, shopping carts, etc. Is this the image we want to present to visitors?

It is an eyesore of great magnitude that needs to be dealt with. Is it the responsibility of homeowners and business owners who pitch their trash over the property wall, out of sight, out of mind? If so, they need to be cited. Where is the graffiti abatement task force? It has a major task to enforce. And to those Fresnans complaining about trash on our freeways, may I suggest taking a train ride through our jewel of a city?

But you may want to hold your nose while doing it.
