Matt Castiglione is laughable candidate
The Sept. 2 paper was extra humorous. There were two pages of comic strips and a front page even more tickling. I was especially taken by the article about the bathroom struggles in Clovis. In particular, I could not believe the quote from Matt Castiglione.
He is seeking a seat on the Clovis Unified School Board, yet he said, “Since Obama came in, it’s been all about equality. This whole equality thing has trickled down now into the education system, and it is creating a mess.”
He is wrong in so many ways that one just has to laugh. Someone needs to remind him that this “equality thing” actually took hold with the writing of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. As an aspiring board member, he should also be told that the “equality thing” is possibly the most important thing schools teach and reinforce.
I hope Mr. Castiglione learns to live in this messy world. The Founding Fathers may have actually preferred a multi-tier system on how those magnificent documents apply to different peoples (many of them were slave owners), BUT that great American public school system taught many of us to read and understand those priceless documents. Equality will no longer be for anything less than all of us.
