Do the math before making that turn

This letter is directed to all the left brain/math-impaired drivers who don’t do their math when legally turning right from a red light onto Herndon Avenue in Fresno!

You are at a dead stop (0 mph) and cross traffic at 50 mph is traveling 73 1/3 feet per second. For one to make a right turn and accelerate to 50 mph will take a minimum of six to eight seconds; accordingly this turn should never be attempted unless oncoming cross traffic is at least 300 feet from the intersection.

By doing the math, congestion/accidents/road rage can be avoided and Herndon Avenue commuters can proceed on this thoroughfare in a swift and orderly manner.

Think about it, and proceed accordingly the next time you make a right turn against a red light to access Herndon Avenue! Thanks!
