Bring minor-league hockey to Fresno
There is a second chance to bring National Hockey League minor-league hockey to Fresno. Now the new NHL team in Las Vegas has a short list on where to start their Triple A affiliate and Fresno is on the short list.
Will our city and Selland Arena people understand that if you want to rejuvenate downtown, you need to have events? Thirty five home dates for hockey will bring people downtown. We lost the San Jose Sharks affiliate already. Are we going to lose another chance of bringing the highest level of minor pro to the city?
I hope the people in charge of downtown realize you are not dealing with the ECHL style of management. You are dealing with the NHL and their best minor-league players. It is time Selland and the city work together on supplying downtown with some more events and what better way to start than with hockey?
Bakersfield, Stockton, Ontario and San Diego all have teams that have invested money into the cities they are in. New rinks and office buildings are being built by the NHL in these cities, but what are we doing to make it feasible? Step up, Fresno!
