Taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood disrespects millions

The Obama Administration has recently proposed new rules to limit the states from defunding Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is a highly partisan and politically active organization. As can be seen on OpenSecrets.org, they are heavy contributors to political candidates who are almost exclusively Democratic. It performs about one out of four of our nation’s abortions at a time when it is obvious that abortion opposition remains strong. Continuing to compel all taxpayers to share the fruits of their toil with Planned Parenthood is therefore unfair.

Planned Parenthood has no monopoly on any of the non-abortion services it provides; for there are thousands of clinics that perform these services and whose hands are not tainted by abortion. While federal law prohibits taxpayer funds from being used for abortion, money is a completely fungible good, making actual enforcement of this prohibition highly problematic.

Continued taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood is a sign of disrespect for millions of Americans, who should join me in contacting their Congressional representatives to express their viewpoint. Abortion rights supporters would never tolerate their money funding National Right to Life.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
