My brother ate scraps to get through Fresno State

I read with utmost interest the front-page article “Fresno State students start school with reliable meals” on Aug. 22.

The article states that “The Student Cupboard – a free food pantry for Fresno State students that opened in 2014,” is helping students continue with their education. Brenda Hartman, a student at Fresno State, states that upon graduation, her goal is to push all higher education institutions to offer the resources that Fresno State does.

As my siblings and I attended Fresno State in the 60s and 70s, it reminded me of one of my brothers, who regularly visited the student union, to see if there was food left over by the other students, so he could get a bite to eat.

He is now an attorney working in San Diego and runs his own company of schools for troubled high school kids who have gotten in trouble with the law.
