Record California snowpack and the coming ‘big melt’: SW Parra cartoon | Opinion
California’s reservior of snow is historic this year. On April 3 hydrologists said readings from 130 snow sensors show California’s snowpack to be way above average for the date. The southern Sierra, which includes the mountains behind Fresno County, is 300% of normal average. Altogether, it is one of the largest snowpacks ever measured in state history.
Coming months will see what is being called “the big melt.” Local and state officials are keeping a close eye on possible flooding as Sierra rivers fill up. SW Parra offers his take on that possibility.
