Cooldown offers Fresno relief from 100-degree days in time for holiday weekend
The triple-digit days Fresnans have been seeing are taking a quick hiatus, bringing a brief respite from the heat before the temperatures crank back up.
According to National Weather Service data, the Fresno area has experienced highs reaching 100 degrees or more every day since June 11. On Wednesday, however, the high dipped to 98 — not exactly remarkably beautiful weather, but cooler nonetheless.
Current forecasts suggest temperatures may continue to dip over the Juneteenth holiday weekend, with Apple Weather showing 90-degree highs for Friday and Saturday.
Alex Cooke, a meteorologist at the NWS’s Hanford office, said a high-pressure ridge has been forming off the coast, trapping heat and allowing stagnant air to build.
However, Cooke said a small area of low-pressure is moving over the Pacific Ocean, ejecting some cooler weather into the area, which will cool the Fresno area down over the holiday weekend.
The respite of milder-than-usual weather will quickly be drowned out next week by temperatures that are set to return to the triple-digits, according to current forecasts.
