New Year’s Day rain and storms this week should keep fog at bay ... for now
As the Central Valley prepares for a rainy New Year’s holiday, storms continuing into early 2026 should help keep foggy weather away for now.
Brian Ochs, a meteorologist based out of the National Weather Service’s Hanford office, said people can anticipate rain as early as Wednesday morning.
Ochs said there’ll be about a half-inch of rain through New Year’s Day, though it might rain as much as one-to-two inches in the mountains.
The area will get hit with another rain system on Friday night that’ll bleed into next week, and Ochs said people can anticipate between an inch-and-a-half and two inches of rain.
Ochs said an “unsettled pattern” marked by frequent atmospheric changes will help keep fog at bay. Once the Central Valley gets drier weather again, the area could return to the foggy weather it saw earlier this month, he said.
Ochs said early January may see more foggy weather, which should largely subside after mid-February.
