Rain, thunderstorms headed to Fresno as temperatures drop. Here’s when

Skies have been recently clear and dry but now it’s time to get out the umbrella.

Rain and thunderstorms were predicted to hit the Fresno area starting Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

“The potential for thunderstorms is currently elevated this Saturday due to a trough coming through the region this weekend,” the weather service said in an X post. “This map shows the chances for thunderstorms throughout our region Saturday afternoon, with the Sierra Nevada showing the greatest chance at 20-25%.”

Fresno has a 21% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, the weather service said. The last time Fresno had a thunderstorm and measurable rain was on April 1-2.

What’s in the forecast for Fresno?

The Fresno area was expected to be cloudy on Friday with a high temperature near 68 degrees and winds around 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service’s latest seven-day forecast.

Temperatures have been in the 80s the past few days, but according to Carlos Molina, a meteorologist with the weather service, Fresno will only get to the 70s this weekend.

When will showers start?

The weather service predicted a 50% chance of rain, mainly after 11 p.m. on Friday. The overnight low is expected to be around 49.

Saturday is expected to bring showers before 11 a.m. and possibly a afternoon thunderstorm., the weather service said. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 62.

There is a 40% chance of rain by Saturday night with a low of 50 degrees.

“New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms,” Molina said. “By the time we get to Saturday, there will be a 10-degree drop in temperatures.”

When will the rain stop?

The weather service said Sunday’s high will be near 67. Skies will be clear and sunny, and Sunday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Monday will be sunny, with a high near 75 and a low around 54 by Monday night.

Tuesday will be sunny, with a high near 84. Tuesday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near 87.

Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low around 61.

Thursday will be sunny with a high near 89.
