Tornado warning issued for Madera County after funnel cloud spotted

A tornado warning was issued late Friday afternoon for Madera County by the National Weather Service in Hanford.

The warning was issued just after 4 p.m. for Madera County, Mariposa County, Merced County until 4:45 p.m.

The tornado warning has since expired.

The weather service received a photo of a funnel cloud north of Madera around 3:45 p.m. Initially, the weather service said the funnel didn’t touched down, but later assessed it and said it did become a tornado.

Meteorologist Brian Ochs said expect more showers and isolated thunderstorms tonight and more rain is in the forecast through the weekend.

He also said there’s been heavy snow in the higher elevations, but no reports of a blizzard. A blizzard warning remains in effect until Sunday morning, Ochs said.
