The National Weather Service is forecasting a chance of thunderstorms in the central San Joaquin Valley on Saturday afternoon, following a morning of scattered showers that left just of trace of rainfall in most areas.

Fresno’s high Saturday was expected to be 69, with a low Saturday night of 55 and a high Sunday of 72.

Meteorologist Brian Ochs in Hanford said unstable air east of the Sierra Nevada was causing thunder and lightning Saturday, and the western side of the range and portions of the Valley might experience the same later in the day.

A trough of low pressure might also affect the region, with breezy winds expected through Sunday, with the possibility of moderate to strong gusts, according to the weather service.
