Free from rain storms, Valley about to get cold. Here’s how low temps will be in Fresno

For nearly a month, it’s been all about the rain as one storm after another moved across California bringing with it major floods, power outages and traffic problems.

That should change this weekend.

The National Weather Service calls for a break in the precipitation in Fresno as a small trough moves over (and then out of) the area on Thursday. But then, it’s going to get cold.

While temperatures are expected in the 40s and 50s during the day, they could drop to freezing overnight.

To that end, a freeze warning has been called for the northwest part of the San Joaquin Valley, excluding Fresno and Visalia.

A freeze watch is in place for the entire region, from Modesto to the Grapevine. Temperatures could drop below freezing, to as low as 28 degrees. Spots in the Sierra Nevada could see temperatures in the single digits.

The freeze watch is in effect Friday night through Monday morning.

The weather service urges residents to bring pets indoors and to cover exposed vegetation.

Warming centers in Fresno

The Fresno City Council will have its four warming centers — at Pinedale, Mosqueda, Ted C. Wills and Maxie L. Parks community centers — open, every night, through the end of the month.
