Weekend storm drops much needed rain and snow in Fresno region. What’s still to come?

A weekend storm dropped three-quarters to almost an inch of rain throughout the central San Joaquin Valley and up to a foot of snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada, the National Weather Service reported Sunday.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Carlos Molina said most of the precipitation fell along the Highway 99 corridor from Fresno County north into Merced County.

The region’s foothills from Tulare County to Merced County received an inch to 1.5 inches of rain, while the storm dropped eight to 10 inches of snow around 6,000 feet.

In the Shaver Lake area, six to 12 inches of snow fell, Molina said.

More snow is expected Monday. The Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the area around Yosemite National Park. Three to five inches to up to 10 inches of snow near the crest is expected.

For the Valley, there is a 20% chance of rain Monday and a 30% chance Tuesday.

Areas of heavy to patchy fog also will descend on the Valley on Monday and Tuesday.
