Update: Power restored in downtown Fresno. A squirrel got into equipment, PG&E says

More than 2,000 customers lost power midday Tuesday in downtown Fresno, PG&E reported.

The energy provider said 2,045 users were without power at about 12:30 p.m., according to the company’s outage map.

The preliminary reason for the outage was attributed to the wet weather, PG&E said, but it was later determined that a squirrel was killed when it was trapped in a piece of power equipment.

Power returned at 1:24 p.m.

The outage included Fresno City Hall, and the city posted a photo on social media of staff continuing to work using their phones for light.

Fresno received about .16 inches of rain by Monday morning, and another .34 inches during the day. Another quarter to a half-inch of rain was expected through Tuesday.
