Fresno may get rain as temps rise to triple digits this week. Here’s what to expect
There’s a chance of rain this week in Fresno on days when temperatures are expected to be around 100 degrees.
The National Weather Service at Hanford described the coming wild weather in a forecast discussion on Monday.
Triple-digit temperatures should persist into the weekend, along with chances of rain across the central San Joaquin Valley and afternoon thunderstorms in the Sierra Nevada and foothills from Wednesday through Friday.
In Fresno, there’s a 20% chance of rain Wednesday night and during the day Thursday, when temperatures are expected to reach 98 degrees and 101 degrees, respectively.
Valley temperatures could be as hot as 105 degrees by Sunday.
The hot temperatures are following some unusual June lows across the region. Madera tied its 1929 record on Sunday for the lowest temperature – 48 degrees – ever recorded on June 19.
The National Weather Service said the warming trend is being caused by a ridge of high pressure. It will be interrupted by a passing trough on Tuesday.
“This area of low pressure will begin to funnel elevated moisture over the area by early Wednesday,” meteorologists said.
Leading up to the possible mid-week rainfall, the Monday high forecast in Fresno was 94 degrees, followed by 101 degrees on Tuesday.
“Hot conditions are likely to prevail into next Monday,” the weather service said, “as little changes in the broader synoptic weather pattern.”
