Rain is headed to the Fresno area and the Valley this week. Here’s what to expect
Rain is headed to the Fresno area Monday and Tuesday.
It’s not a huge storm, but with the area still in a drought, every little bit helps, said meteorologist Jim Andersen with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
There will be a 60% chance of rain in the Fresno area. The area is expected to get between a quarter and a half inch of rain, he said.
Some rain could start in the northern part of the central San Joaquin Valley late Monday, but most of it will come Tuesday morning through the afternoon.
Areas north of Fresno will get more rain and parts south will get less.
Some snow is possible in the mountains, but most of it may be above 8,000 or 9,000 feet in elevation because this is a warmer system.
There’s some uncertainty about how much rain Fresno will get because recent forecasting models are changing, showing rainfall moving north.
The amount won’t be like the atmospheric river that dumped rain on Fresno last month, but the city should get some, Andersen said.
“Any rainfall helps in a drought situation,” he said.
For the rain season starting Oct. 1, Fresno has received 1.27 inches. Normal for this time of year is 0.71 inches.
“The good news is that we’ve been seeing some rain early and hopefully we see more,” Andersen said. “These add up.”
