A storm is coming. Will it rain in Fresno today? Here is what the Weather Service says

It will be a few days before the central San Joaquin Valley sees major effects from a trio of Pacific storm systems that are expected to produce “copious amounts of rain” this weekend.

The first front is expected to fall apart Friday as it pushes trough the Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.

If there is rain on Friday, it will be light and followed by a lull through Saturday night, when a much larger and stronger system is expected to move out of the Gulf of Alaska. It is expected to bring rain to the area in amounts worth noting.

So-called “nuisance flooding” and ponding of water on roads are possible, the NWS said.

Current projections have the bulk of the rain — and snow in higher elevation — expected for later Sunday night into Monday, with a high probability that most lower elevations will exceed more than one inch in 24 hours. There is a 90% chance Fresno will see at least .53 inches of rain during that time.

Or the city could see as much as 2.72 inches, according to the Weather Service. The probability of that stands at 10%.

Fresno earlier this month received about four-tenths of an inch of rain from a storm.
