Grapevine, Highway 58 to Las Vegas open for weekend; showers through next week likely
Roadways to Southern California and Las Vegas were reopened early Friday after closures during the Thanksgiving holiday, the California Highway Patrol reported, but showers and rain are expected to continue into next week, according to the National Weather Service.
Interstate 5, the Grapevine route to Las Angeles, was shut down overnight as snow fell on the mountain pass. The CHP reports that the route, along with Highway 58, which leads to Nevada, were reopen again early Friday.
However, the entrance to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National parks from Highway 180 was temporarily closed until about noon Friday for snow clearing, according to park officials.
But the weather service cautions travelers to expect wet weather through next week. There is a 40% chance of rain in the central San Joaquin Valley on Friday, and a 30% chance Saturday. A storm front off the Pacific coast will continue to send moisture into the region.
Fresno’s high temperature Friday is expected to be 50 degrees, with a low Friday night of 36 degrees, and a high Saturday of 53 degrees.
