Class of 2020: Bullard High School
Bullard High School 2020 Graduation Speech
Speaker: McKenna Foss
I would first like to thank everybody for sharing this special moment with the class of 2020. Life truly is a classroom, where we learn new lessons through the good and the bad.
My peers and I all come from different backgrounds. Our social groups remain diverse. Together we find our strengths, often in the very things that make us different. We, as a class, come together as individuals of varying ethnicities, belief systems and academic achievements. If any one of us were not to embrace the beauty of our variances our class would become stagnant and keep us from reaching our true potential. I believe that the most beneficial and enjoyable moments I experienced have been in a space with people from all different paths. It is in these times that I have been stretched and strengthened both academically and socially.
This year we were faced with an unexpected twist. Covid 19. I don’t believe any of us imagined that we would fall victim to a situation so out of our control. But in the same way, what an extraordinary challenge. Together as a school and community we have discovered new ways to stay connected. Between online assessments and zooms with our teachers and peers this pandemic has brought us together and truly taught us what it means to persevere. And as the graduating senior class of Bullard High School, we should be proud! I mean how amazing is it that we are able to share this graduation at home with all of the amazing educators, family, and friends that have helped shape us our whole lives to get to where we are standing now. As Mister Rodgers once said, “How great it is when we come to know that times of disappointment can be followed by joy.”
Moving forward, we are able to find joy knowing that all of our hard work these past 4 years through the ups and the downs have led us to this moment. A moment where we can celebrate together, have hope and excitement for the adventures that await us in the coming years, and be proud to call ourselves the class that made history. The class of 2020!
