Senate candidate visits Central Valley this weekend
Rep. Loretta Sanchez, who is running for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Barbara Boxer, who is retiring, will visit the Central Valley on Sunday and Monday.
Two meet-and-greets are planned on Sunday: 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Charter Inn & Suites at 1016 E. Prosperity Ave. in Tulare, and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1011 Ahronian St. in Fowler. The second event is being hosted by Fowler Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Parra. Both are free and open to the public. On Monday, Sanchez will join other regional elected officials and 2016 candidates at the Fresno-Madera-Tulare-Kings Central Labor Council’s annual Labor Day breakfast at the Fresno fairgrounds.
Sanchez was elected to the U.S. Congress as a Democrat from Orange County in 1996. She currently has senior positions on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee. She is also a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and is the co-chair of the Immigration Task Force.
