State watchdog agency confirms fine for former school board trustee Brooke Ashjian
The California Fair Political Practices Commission voted unanimously on Thursday to fine former Fresno Unified trustee Brooke Ashjian more than $20,000 for conflicts of interest.
An investigation by FPPC staff found that during his single term from 2014-2018, Ashjian made governmental decisions in which he had a financial interest. The investigation also concluded that he failed to timely disclose about four dozen sources of income and interests in real property. The commission voted to fine him $23,500.
The FPPC order notes that while Ashjian’s violations are serious, there was no evidence that he intended to conceal, deceive or mislead the public. The order also noted that he does not have a history of prior violations.
The decision was a consent calendar item on Thursday’s meeting agenda. There was no discussion on the item prior to the vote.
Ashjian already paid the fine, but it remained frozen in escrow until the board officially voted on Thursday.
Ashjian declined to comment on the vote.
