LG, KETI to launch AI platform processing 10 million safety reports annually
SEOUL, April 30 (UPI) -- South Korea's LG AI Research said Thursday that it has partnered with the state-backed Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) to develop an AI-powered public safety reporting system.
LG AI Research noted that the institute leveraged its proprietary AI model, EXAONE 4.5, to come up with the new platform, which will be introduced through a pilot service later this year.
It automates the entire reporting workflow, from initial intake to final response, making it capable of handling more than 10 million safety reports per year, according to LG AI Research.
The platform is expected to address a major bottleneck in the country's current system, which often struggles with typos or vague descriptions due to its reliance on keyword-based sorting.
By automating image analysis and classification, LG AI Research said that the system can identify and route critical safety issues in real time, ensuring rapid response without human intervention.
"Through this collaboration with LG, we expect to reduce the administrative burdens and operational costs of public services while helping strengthen citizen safety," KETI chief Shin Hee-dong said in a statement.
"We aim to create a leading example of AI transformation that the public can truly experience by processing safety-related civil complaints swiftly and accurately," he added.
LG AI Research head Lim Woo-hyung said that delivering tangible value through expert AI is a key direction for LG.
"By utilizing EXAONE to boost the speed and quality of safety administration, which is directly linked to public safety, we will contribute to enhancing the overall quality of life," he said in a statement.
Launched in 2020 as the AI control tower of LG Group, LG AI Research is not publicly listed. The share price of LG Corp., the holding company of the group, gained 0.81% on the Seoul bourse on Thursday.
