List of Companies Laying Off Employees This Week
Dozens of companies will be laying people off this week, according to WARN notices reviewed by Newsweek. Thousands of people could lose their jobs across multiple states as companies adjust to economic challenges and automation.
Thousands of people have lost their jobs this year due to layoffs, and the state of the economy is weighing down President Donald Trump’s approval rating heading into the midterms. However, even as layoffs continue to ripple across industries this year, the U.S. unemployment rate has remained relatively low, hovering around 4.3 percent.
That gap could be partially driven by severance periods, staggered layoff timelines and workers leaving the labor force altogether, delaying when job losses show up in unemployment figures. However, that unemployment rate could rise over time if people who were laid off aren’t able to find new jobs.
