Young Sunday school attendees told their parents that a church volunteer would go with them to the bathroom and sexually assault them, Minnesota police said. Now, the 50-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges.

Joshua Seeman had been volunteering at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Roseville for two years when he was charged with criminal sexual assault of a child on April 11, according to a probable cause statement.

McClatchy News reached out to the church but did not immediately receive a response. Seeman’s attorney could not be reached for comment.

After a father picked up his 5-year-old son from Sunday school, the child said he was in pain in his private areas, the probable cause statement said. The child told his parents about how Seeman went into the bathroom with him and then explained how a sexual assault occurred, police said.

Seeman is accused of telling the 5-year-old that his parents were OK with the man going into the bathroom with him, according to the probable cause statement.

The parents told another church member, a former assistant pastor, of the abuse accusations, the probable cause statement.

The former assistant pastor spoke with his granddaughter, who was a Sunday school teacher at the church. She told him that Seeman would walk the girls to the bathroom and go into the bathroom with the boys, the probable cause said.

Court documents say the sexual assaults began on Feb. 1, and some of the children were assaulted on multiple occasions.

A 5-year-old girl showed odd behavior following an encounter with Seeman in April, the probable cause statement said. The girl said Seeman took her and another girl to the bathroom but would not let them close the stall doors, police said. He watched them and inappropriately touched them, according to court documents.

A 6-year-old boy and 4-year-old boy also told parents that Seeman assaulted them in the bathroom during Sunday school, according to court documents.

Multiple parents told police that Seeman had offered to watch their children, police said.

Seeman has a history of sexual assault allegations dating back to 2001, authorities said. He was arrested April 10 and is held in Ramsey County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 16, according to jail records.
