Mom lost with 3 kids near popular Sedona trail calls for help as it snows, AZ cops say
A mom and her children were hiking in Sedona when they got lost once snow covered the trail in Arizona, deputies said.
A rescue team responded to the area at about 5 p.m. Jan. 28 near Devil’s Bridge Trail, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The group included the mom and her four children, deputies.
Her adult child left the family and found rescuers at the trailhead, but she couldn’t call her mom because she forgot her phone, deputies said.
As rescue teams set out to find the family, they got a call from another group of lost hikers, deputies said.
The second group managed to find the mom and her children, and they waited with them until rescuers reached them.
The two groups stayed in one spot and made it to the trailhead by 8 p.m.
No one reported any injuries, but they were cold and wet.
Devil’s Bridge Trail leads to an iconic sandstone formation.
“Devil’s Bridge is the largest natural sandstone arch in the Sedona area. Don’t let its name fool you: it’s one of the most heavenly sights in an area famous for them,” according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The hike is ranked moderately difficult and is 1.8-miles round trip.
