Woman who asked for ride home is kidnapped, thrown out of car at 80 mph, MO cops say
A woman who investigators say was kidnapped and thrown out of a fast-moving vehicle was found with serious injuries by a passerby, Missouri police say.
The Berkeley Police Department said the woman asked the man for a ride home Nov. 24 and he agreed. It was not specified how the man and woman know one another.
Instead of driving the woman home, Samuel Boyd drove to a liquor store in St. Louis, where he purchased alcohol, police said. The victim asked to be taken home again, but Boyd then drove to his cousin’s roadside memorial.
Boyd hung out at the memorial with people the woman did not know, and at one point he began touching her inappropriately, according to a criminal complaint.
When they went back to the car, the woman again asked to be taken home, police said. This time, Boyd “drove around” for about an hour.
As Boyd “became upset” about the victim repeatedly asking to go home, he is accused of pushing her out of the car while driving 80 mph, according to the complaint.
“Victim was discovered by a passerby and an ambulance was called,” police said. “Victim was taken to the hospital and suffered serious injuries including serious brain problems and a broken hand.”
Authorities later located Boyd, who admitted to driving the woman around and taking her to multiple locations, according to court records.
He said the woman wasn’t pushed out of the car, but rather fell out, police said. Boyd told investigators he “couldn’t go back and help the victim because his phone was dead,” court records state.
Boyd was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault, causing serious physical injury, according to court records. He was jailed on a $250,000 bond.
Berkeley is a northwest suburb of St. Louis.
