A 4-year-old dog named Belette is ready to show her devotion to a new owner.

Having spent more than 300 days in a Nebraska shelter, the American Blue Heeler mix continues to show off her “great smile” as she waits for her perfect match.

There’s a couple stipulations, the Central Nebraska Humane Society said in an Aug. 19 Facebook post. Belette does not do well around cats — or children.

She’s “timid” when she’s introduced to new people, but the humane society said she just needs extra time to trust a potential owner.

“For Belette... judge her on the personality you see after getting her outside of the building and into the fresh air,” the shelter said. “Because once you do, we are pretty sure you will have a hard time leaving her here.”

Since the shelter’s August post, Belette is now its longest resident, having been in the Grand Island shelter since December.

It’s not for a lack of not trying. Belette is described as “super smart girl and (can) learn fast.”

“Once I warm up you will see just how adorable and friendly I am,” the shelter said in a profile from the dog’s perspective.

She also does well around other dogs, as shown in a June video posted on social media when she went on a play date with another adoptable pup.

“She would do best in a calmer home that isn’t a revolving door of people coming and going,” the shelter said about Belette.

Grand Island is about a 150-mile drive southwest from Omaha.
