Two horses are more than just besties — and need new home together, Texas shelter says
A pair of sweet “unicorn” horses are getting attention online for their adorable friendship, a Texas shelter highlights.
Meet Takoda and Jack Black, two horses who have an unique bond that can’t be broken, according to a Facebook post from Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth, a shelter that’s been taking care of the duo.
“These two best friends are seeking a new loving home!” the shelter posted on Aug. 20.
The thing is, not only is Jack Black Takoda’s bestie, but he also plays the role of … his eyes.
“He helps Takoda find his way and gives him comfort with his company. They have been pasture mates for many months at the ranch and are two of the sweetest geldings you will ever meet!”
Takoda was rescued from dire conditions and had both his eyes removed, the post continued. But he doesn’t let blindness get in the way of life and is charming to everyone he comes in contact with.
“Takoda arrived at our ranch without his sight and a body condition score of 1. He immediately perked up and his spirits were lifted as we began to provide care and food for him,” his online pet profile says.
“He started putting on weight and made friends with his pasture mates. He was an absolute champ for both of his eye removal surgeries and made an excellent recovery. Takoda is now thriving!”
Thanks to Jack, he’s able to wander about the pasture using him as his guide.
“Despite his loss of sight, he is a very chill and charismatic guy. He would do best with a confident and experienced handler.”
Jack is a “calming” senior horse that was surrendered by his owner, according to the Facebook post.
