Body of man who called 911 before disappearing found in lake 600 miles away, cops say
The body of an Iowa man who went missing in January has been found nearly 600 miles away in an Arkansas lake, police said.
On Aug. 4, the Howard County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas was alerted to a vehicle found submerged in Gillham Lake, according to an Aug. 6 news release from the Winterset Police Department.
Authorities, with the help of a dive team, recovered a Ford Taurus with the body of 25-year-old Joshua Graham-Caskey inside, police said.
Graham-Caskey was reported missing Jan. 18 after he placed a 911 call to a local Iowa sheriff’s office, authorities said.
Iowa authorities were able to use license plate readers, financial transactions and business surveillance footage to confirm he traveled south through Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
His last known location was at a gas station in Mena, Arkansas, on Jan. 19, police said.
Graham-Caskey’s car was found about a 30-minute drive south of Mena, according to authorities.
There is no evidence of foul play, the sheriff’s office said.
Gillham Lake is a 590-mile drive south from Winterset, Iowa.
Graham-Caskey’s disappearance caught the attention of many people and led to the creation of a 4,400-member Facebook group called “Help find Joshua Graham-Caskey.”
He was also the subject of an episode of a true-crime podcast called “The Vanished.”
