A dad fell asleep while his child was in a running bathtub and woke to find the child had drowned, Florida authorities said.

Marc Basulto, 21, is charged with aggravated manslaughter involving the death of a child, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said in a May 23 news release.

His attorney information was not available in court records as of May 24.

Basulto and his two kids were at their Pensacola home on May 23 when Basulto started running a bath, deputies said.

He put his 1-year-old son in the water while the faucet was running, then took medication before falling asleep in another room, according to deputies.

He slept for two hours until he woke up to the sound of his other child crying, authorities said. He found his 1-year-old unresponsive in the overflowing bathtub.

Deputies said they responded to a call of a child’s cardiac arrest.

The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Pensacola is in the western part of the Florida Panhandle.
