Worried friend finds missing climber’s car and calls for help. Now body found
A 29-year-old climber’s body was found after a concerned friend found his empty car at a trail in Colorado, rescuers said.
The man was reported missing at 10:33 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, from the Officers Gulch area, according to a Facebook post from the Summit County Rescue Group.
Before he went missing, he called his friend and said he would be done with his climb at about 6:30 p.m. that day, rescuers said.
But his friend never heard from the man, so he drove to Officers Gulch and found his parked car.
Then he reported the climber missing.
Rescuers said they started looking for the man but paused efforts until the morning because it was dark and there was traffic noise, making it “unlikely” they would be able to see or hear the man.
At about 6 a.m., according to the post, rescuers began looking for the missing climber using a drone and his last known location.
His body was found nearly two hours later in a boulder field at the base of a cliff, rescuers said.
Officers Gulch is about 75 miles west of Denver.
