Man drowns while tubing with friends on Georgia lake, authorities say
A man fell off his tube and drowned while tubing with friends on a Georgia lake over the weekend, authorities say.
Rescuers were called Sunday, April 16, about a drowning near Kersey Bridge on Jackson Lake, according to the Butts County Sheriff’s Office.
Divers pulled Torey Antonio Domineck’s body from the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Crews said the 48-year-old wasn’t wearing a life vest when he fell into the water.
No other injuries were reported.
“I would ask the entire community to keep Torey’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers in this most difficult time and I pray God will bring them peace and comfort,” Butts County Sheriff Gary Long said in a statement.
The 4,750-acre lake is one of the “oldest reservoirs in Georgia” and is used for fishing, swimming and boating, according to ExploreGeorgia.org.
Long said it’s a busy time for the area and encouraged those with plans to enjoy the water to “please make sure you have a life jacket on regardless of what type of swimmer you may be.”
Additional details about the incident weren’t immediately available.
Butts County is about 50 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
