Driver killed after steel plate pierces windshield on Washington road, troopers say
A driver was killed after a steel plate flew into his truck on a Washington highway, troopers said.
The driver of a black 2000 Ford pickup was going west on the Interstate 90 around 3:17 p.m. on April 13 near Ritzville when a steel plate pierced their windshield, Washington State Patrol said in an April 27 news release.
After the “heavy” piece of metal struck the driver, the truck crossed into the center median, “vaulted off the median” and crashed down to the road below an overpass, troopers said.
Authorities said he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s identity has not been released.
Anyone with information about the steel plate or the crash can contact detective Lewis Stevens at 509-227-6642 or Lewis.Stevens@wsp.wa.gov.
Ritzville is about 60 miles southwest of Spokane.
