Coronavirus news changes fast. Here are some resources for accurate information

Information about the novel coronavirus is rapidly changing with new cases being reported every day.

With so much new information — and misinformation — it can be tough to stay up-to-date on COVID-19 and to determine what’s true. These are some of the best resources for accurate and current information on the global pandemic.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Perhaps the most comprehensive and close-to-the-source information on all things coronavirus is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — the nation’s leading public health institute and part of the Department of Health and Human Services.

You can find the CDC’s COVID-19 landing page here.

The CDC’s site has links to information on such things as symptoms, how to properly disinfect, and how-to-prepare resources for schools, businesses and travelers, including up-to-date information on travel warnings and restrictions.

There’s also a running list of the latest official coronavirus updates on the landing page as well as a map of reported cases in the U.S. by state.

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization is a world public health agency of the United Nations. It declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic on Wednesday.

You can find the WHO’s coronavirus landing page here.

Similar to the CDC’s site, the WHO landing page has links to information including guidelines for how to protect yourself from contracting the virus, situation reports and video of news conferences.

You can also find the WHO’s map of COVID-19 information by country here, as well as a running count of global cases and deaths.

Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Sciences and Engineering developed a live map of global COVID-19 active cases, total past cases, deaths and recoveries, which can be seen here.

The map is constantly updating and breaks down figures for specific locations when you click your area of interest on the map.

It also includes a list of confirmed cases by country listed from most cases to least so you can easily determine where your country falls in comparison to other parts of the world.

U.S. Department of State

The U.S. Department of State’s COVID-19 landing page is an invaluable resource for travelers with quick links to information including travel advisories, travel-related quarantine guidelines and a list of President Donald Trump’s proclamations on the virus.

You can find the website here.

Travelers can also find the State Department’s guidelines for those returning to the U.S. from Europe, China and cruise ships, as well as information for U.S. students traveling abroad.

American Red Cross

Turn to the American Red Cross’s website for information on health needs during the coronavirus outbreak — like blood donation — and the best practices for prevention.

Find the website here.

The Red Cross has easily accessible information on who’s at risk, how to prepare your household for quarantine and what to do if you contract COVID-19.

Harvard Medical School

Harvard Medical School’s health publishing center created a landing page with guidelines on how to protect yourself from COVID-19 as well as more general questions about what the coronavirus is and how it compares to other illnesses.

You can find it here.

Harvard Health Publishing also has links to podcasts with information about COVID-19 including one with a Harvard infectious disease specialist and another about stress management during the outbreak with a Harvard psychologist.
