Clovis West student arrested for allegedly making graffiti threat

A student at Clovis West High School was arrested Wednesday in connection to threatening graffiti found in a girl’s bathroom last month.

On May 24, graffiti was found that said, “I will kill everyone in this school tomorrow at noon. I hate you all. Better find me before its (sic) too late.”

Clovis Unified School District officials worked with police and did not believe a credible threat existed at the school. However, a student was arrested on Wednesday after confessing to making the threat.

District spokeswoman Kelly Avants would not release further details on the perpetrator, citing privacy laws.

“Since the incident, which led to a widespread drop in attendance May 25, the administration had continued to investigate a number of leads provided by students and staff in the case, as well as implement additional security measures,” Avants said. “New information obtained yesterday in the investigation led to a confession and the arrest of a single individual. Parents, students and staff at the school were informed this afternoon (Wednesday).”

The school district dealt with another controversial graffiti message last month. At Clovis High, racial slurs – and messages like, “Go Back 2 Africa” – were found in the boy’s bathroom. That incident continues to be investigated.
