3 Clovis North students win honors at Intel science fair

Three students from Clovis North High School were honored for their entries at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix on May 13, according to Clovis Unified School District.

Senior Alex Tacescu won second place and $1,500 for his entry, “Project Maverick: An Omni-Directional Robotic Mobility System,” to help the disabled. Tacescu was also awarded $1,500 and the International Council on Systems Engineering award for his project.

Senior Anchit Narain and sophomore Robert Tacescu were each awarded third place and $1,000 for their entries. Narain was honored in the Energy: Chemical category, and Tacescu placed in the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category.

Clovis North High School was one of only two schools at the fair to have three students win Intel ISEF grand awards, according to Clovis North director of science, Jonathan Browns.

The international competition drew entries from around the world, including Japan, France, Brazil and Thailand. The three Clovis North students qualified for the Intel fair by winning in their respective categories at the Central California Math, Science and Engineering Fair.
