Valley Arts charter school in Fresno’s Tower District to close

Officials with Valley Arts and Science Academy announced Thursday they will close the 9-year-old charter school next June when the current school year ends.

The school is based in Fresno’s Tower District. The closure is needed, officials said, because it cannot show necessary growth using the state’s standardized testing.

Valley Arts has focused its curriculum on arts and science instruction. About 226 students are currently enrolled.

School officials said they are working with parents for good placements of the students for the fall of 2016.
