West Hills College Lemoore teaching conference draws about 160

West Hills College Lemoore’s Tech Conference on Oct. 30 drew about 160 people – mostly high school and college students – interested in learning more about the teaching profession.

The conference featured workshops, keynote speakers, a question and answer session with local teachers, and booths from four-year universities that offer teaching certification programs.

Teachers from schools in Hanford, Avenal, Lemoore and Coalinga led workshops on topics like how to survive the first year of teaching, how to ace interviews, how to communicate with parents of students, and science and math education. Attendees also learned about Common Core standards, college and university programs for future teachers and lesson planning.

The importance of using technology in the classroom to improve the educational experience was also discussed.
